Our History

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Our founder, Saboteur, first experienced roller derby on a trip to the U.S. They immediately fell in love with the sport, bought quad skates, and returned to Denmark with a determination to start a space for this amazing sport in Denmark. Within a very short time, the first team meeting was held and the Copenhagen Roller Derby (CRD) league was formed.

An American roller derby player and trainer, Ana Killingspree, from the Mad Rollin Dolls Roller Derby League in Madison, Wisconsin happened to be in Denmark when the first Danish team was created, and she volunteered to be the team coach for the first year. The team trained in Kulturkajen Docken, which provided a large venue for skating at the time.

In Spring of 2010, CRD was integrated with the established Roller Skating Club “Vesterbro Rulleskøjte Klub” (VRK), and in June 2010, CRD played their first bout against the Hamburg team Hamburg Harbor Girls under the team nameRollin Heartbreakersand won the match 177-90.

In September 2010, CRD merged with the second roller derby team in Copenhagen, the Kick Ass Cuties (KAC), which was founded in January of that year.
